Jane Feely has always associated photography with family. Growing up in Tenby, a small coastal town in Wales, she was fascinated by her grandfather’s home movies and her father’s dark room in the attic. She spent her summers working in her parents’ photography store, the first in the town to offer same day developing and printing. She recalls many hours helping customers with their “holiday snaps” and witnessing the dangers of getting sand in a Kodak Instamatic.
A key thread running through Jane's work is her fascination with the uniqueness of the individual. Captivated by the detail and texture of the natural world, she strives to highlight the beauty in the imperfect. Her images, while diverse in subject matter, explore themes including aging and the fragmentation of memory, the ties that bind us to our roots and issues surrounding perception of self.
Jane lives in Highland Park, IL and is a member of the Chicago Photographic Arts Society.
